Music scanning apps have been around for years. The premise of these interesting programs is to give you the ability to take a picture of a musical score or choral octave, immediately hear it played, and then be able to export that image as a MIDI or XML file, magically saving you time. and the energy of importing all this information manually.
So the question is... do these programs actually work and do what they say they will?
In this blog, we'll look at two popular, inexpensive sheet music scanning apps (PlayScore 2 and Sheet Music Scanner) to see if each app accurately recognizes different music and increasingly difficult notation, assessing their overall functionality to understand each piece. Mp3 download songs limitations and quirks of the scanner application and overall decide whether or not it's worth the cost.
